This is my third draft layout for my double page spread. I found a Japanese magazine's double page spread which will influenced my DPS. I think this double page spread will suit my magazine and attract my target audiences because there will be a lot of photographs than texts whereas ''Kindai'' has lots of snapshots, however, the article is quite long but it contains interesting about the artist and it is interesting to read.

Draft layout for cover page
This is my first draft layour for my cover page which is influenced by ''Kindai''. This is a typical Japanese magazine whereas a lot of information on the cover and attracts audiences to buy the magazine. The use of warm bright colours catches audiences' eye better. Although this is a good example, I would put more photographs on my cover page because my target audiences prefer picture more than texts.

Draft layout for double page spread (ii)

I used the Rule of Thirds and vertically devided the page into three parts. It created more interesting and appeals more to the audiences.
There is also white space which give visually balance on the page. There are a lot of pictures on the page and it will attract the audiences and make the page looks more interesting. I have decided to put lots of photographs on the page because my target audiences prefer more pictures than texts.

Draft layout for double page spread
This is my idea for my double page spread which is influenced by the Q's magazine. I decided to use the 'Z pattern' to attract the audiences.

Contents Page Analysis
This is a contents page of Q's music magazine. I like the layout of the coverlines details and the large image of the feature band. There is a capital letter Q reminds the audiences that this is the Q's magazine and the colour of the masthead is in white which contrasts with the black block and also the dateline and website. The ''features'' and page numbers are highlighted in red which link to the word ''Q'' and catching attentions. The coverlines are in Capital and big letters and some of the details are bold, such as bands/singers names and etc.
At the middle of the coverlines, there is a box which says ''OASIS SPECIAL'' which is the special included in this magazine and the red is changed to gold colour. They offer this popular band as feature to the audiences and persuade them to buy this issue. There is a long shot, professional large image on the contents page and the coverlines suggest there are a lot of information from them. The word ''exclusive'' interested the most because it is not in every issue of the magazine and attracts the fans to buy it.
There is a regular section underneath the special which is ''every month''. It is in red and layout similar to the feature section. They offer games and commandments for the audiences as regular section. There is another regular section below the image which is the ''review'' of every issue. This section offers music guides and information of new albums and the catch phrase ''the world's biggest and best music guide'' which is next to the ''REVIEW'' says it all and gives general ideas to the audiences about this magazine as well as this section. The phrase also suggests that although this is a regular, it is important and the audiences must read it.
Fonts ideas
This are the fonts that I have chosen from www.defont.com and I think that they will suit my magazine because they look like Japanese writing and they will be the iconic signs for my target audience. My favorite is Cheri and I am going to use it as my masthead and may consider to use some of the other fonts as coverlines as well as contents page.11 November 2010
Initial Music Magazine Ideas.
I have chosen a title for my magazine which is JB. I have decided to use this title because my magazine is an English version of a Japanese magazine and the title means 'British+Japanese' and I think that the title relates to my magazine. However, the details and texts which are going to include in my magazine will be in English which is convenient for British readers.
The first demographic I looked at for my magazine were gender and age group. I am aiming female as I thought that my magazine will be a unique music magazine and there is not many feminine music magazine in the market. The age group that I have decided for my target audience is 18 - 25 and this is because they will be the most likely audience to buy my magazine and the products which are promoting in my magazine. This age group has a certain amount of spending money and they are interested in latest gadgets products and fashionable information. I think that they are willing to spend time reading magazines as the intellectual level of my magazine will be average but a balance of pictures and texts. I would give my magazine an income demographic because this age group normally has a stable income and they are always willing to spend on trendy products such as magazines to keep them up to date.
Secondly, I have also looked at the geographic for my magazine as there is a lot of foreigners living in the UK and they are more likely to be interested in this type of music magazine because they would like to know the singers from Asia and news about them. My magazine will appeal to some British audiences who are fascinated by Asian culture, especially Japanese culture. Moreover, I looked at the psychographic for my magazine in terms of the website called 'UK Tribes'. From this website I have found a 'tribes' that I think my magazine would appeal to this type of audiences. This is:
Trendies http://www.uktribes.com/?p=tribe&id=1. Other than that, I think that my magazine will also appeal to aspirers and individuals such as university students.
I have decided my magazine would be priced at £2.99 because this is a reasonable price at average of a music magazine. However, it contains a lot foreign and unusual information that audiences are interested in. My magazine will be produced monthly because I think it would become overly expensive, and it can include a lot more interesting features and regulars in my magazine for a monthly update.
The content of my magazine will be similar to Blender in a way as it contains band/singer news, band/singer reviews, freebies etc. However it will also include more different features such as interviews of well known bands/singers, fashion news and non-fanous bands. It will cover both Western and Asian bands and singers rather than concentrating on one side. In each issue, there will be a language tutorial section at the end of my magazine which could interested non-Japanese speakers to know about this language and learning simple phrases. There will also be a regular introduction of some famous artists in Asia for British readers and I think this section will help them to understand more about these artists' music and performances.
My magazine will be in a similar style as Kindai and In Tune. However, my coverpage would have more coverlines than inTune and more different fonts. Also there will be more colour which is the similar idea to Kindai. My cover page will be a large image of a famous band and a lot of coverlines about what is inside the magazine. I think that a large image on the cover will attract audiences to buy my magazine as well as their curious of the coverlines details. My unique selling point will be a mix of Western and Asian genre whereas there is not many in the market.

Ideas for contents
I started planning what would be appearing on my contents page of my music magazine, such as coverlines, catch phrase, freebies, exclusives, latest gadgets and products promotions.
The main coverlines will be exclusive interview with the popular band, Asian performances in the UK and also details for fans to purchase Asian albums. My music magazine is an English version of a new Japanese magazine which is targeting both languages speakers and I think that these coverlines would also attracts British readers because Japanese culture is very popular in Great Britain. Also, there are a lot of Asian people living in the UK and they are the mainly audiences.
I have decided to offer promises and freebies on each issue, and the products will be new albums and posters with star's signature. The regular section of my magazine will include Japanese fashion, make-up and language tutorial which is specially offer for non-Japanese speakers. The feature section of my magazine will be an interview of a hot band from Japan.
I have chosen some artists that the audiences would like to see in my magazine and I have decided to put some Western artists and Asian artists on the list. Such as S.H.E., SuperJunior, Wonder Girls, Girls Generation and JayChou. The Western artists are Taylor swift, Akon, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

This is also one of the magazines that i like because of the layout and used of colours. The masthead is in serif font and big bold letters, it is written in blue which links to the jeans and it takes a quarter part of the cover page. The title is not in capital and the shape of it suits the phrase ''in tune'' because it gives me the impression of a melody. The slogan is shown on top of the title which talks directly targeting the suitable young audiences. There are five different colours which are blue, white, black, yellow and orange. The orange links to the shirt and white is used as texts which are big, in capital letters, sans serif font and with stroke. There is only one image which suggests that the magazine concentrates on the band on the cover and there are more texts than images in this magazine. It is a long shot of the band and their subjective gaze catch the target audiences. The mood of the image is serious, it is a professional picture and they look cool in the photograph. There is a barcode at the bottom right corner with a price $4.99 ( it is an American magazine). The formal language is used as the coverlines and they look tidy which means the magazine contains professional articles inside. The big coverline where it says ''THE ZAC BROWN BAND'' is in big sans serif font and it is written with stroke considered that white does not appears very clear on the page and there is the same situation with yellow texts. There is a promise written in yellow because yellow is a sharp colour to attract audiences' eyes. The layout of the texts is wrapping around the band who is placed at the middle of the cover.

This is one of the magazines that I like and it would influence my music magazine. The masthead is big and capital letters, sans serif font and bold. It is written in black which contrasts with the white background. The image is a medium close-up shot of Kelly Clarkson, her subjective gaze catches target audiences' attentions and suggests that they have to buy and read it. There is only one image which suggests that the magazine is focusing on her as the cover story and more texts than images inside the magazine. There is a promise on top of the title which could target more audiences. The barcode is at the bottom right corner and the dateline (April, 2009) written next to it. The price is also written on top of the barcode and says $4.99 ( it is an American magazine). There are mainly four colours on the cover which are red, white, black and grey. The white links to Kelly's t-shirt and red links to the drawing on her t-shirt. Black and white make each other stand out and grey is the middle between black and white. Red is used to highlight some important points on the cover and black is used for the coverlines. Grey is used for the promise and the details of the coverlines. All the coverlines are bold, sans serif font and capital letters. It is an interesting layout where the texts wrap around Kelly who is placed at the middle of the cover page and the language is formal which suggests that the magazine is professional and it contains a lot text inside it.
